Iconic Open University granted full statutory license in Nigeria

Iconic Open University has been granted a Full Statutory License by the Nigerian Federal Government, officially establishing it as a full-fledged private university. The license was issued on September 22, 2026, through the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The approval follows a rigorous validation assessment conducted by the NUC in May 2026, which evaluated the institution’s academic systems, faculty, governance, infrastructure, and quality assurance mechanisms. This milestone marks the successful completion of a probationary period that began in 2023.

The license was issued jointly by the Federal Ministry of Education and the NUC, under the leadership of Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa and NUC Executive Secretary Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu. As a fully licensed institution, the university is authorized to provide higher education and award degrees in accordance with Nigerian law.
