ICP-Brasil marks 25 years of digital security in Brazil
The Brazilian Public Key Infrastructure (ICP-Brasil) is celebrating 25 years of operation. Established in August 2001, the system was designed to ensure authenticity, integrity, and legal validity for electronic transactions in Brazil.
Over the past two and a half decades, the infrastructure has supported the country's digital transformation, enabling electronic judicial processes, digital tax invoicing, and electronic medical prescriptions. It provides a layer of security that allows individuals and companies to be identified safely in the digital environment.
Márcio Nunes, president of the National Digital Certification Association (ANCD), noted that the infrastructure's role in verifying identity is becoming increasingly critical as the country faces new challenges such as artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and the future emergence of post-quantum cryptography.
