ICQ Reborn Community Project Revives Classic Messenger

A community‑led initiative called ICQ Reborn has recreated the early‑2000s ICQ chat service for Windows PCs. The freeware mimics the original’s look and functions, including the classic contact list, buttons and the “Uh‑oh” notification sound, while operating on its own private server infrastructure instead of the former ICQ servers.

New users register directly in the application and receive a unique UIN, with offline messages stored on the project's servers and delivered when the recipient reconnects. The project is unaffiliated with the original ICQ service and remains free, though it currently offers modest community size and is limited to Windows platforms.
