Ida-Virumaa bears relocated after repeated settlement entries

Two young bears, weighing approximately 25 kilograms each, were tranquilized and relocated to the forest in Kuningaküla, Ida-Virumaa, after repeatedly entering human settlements. Born earlier this year, the bears have been relocated a total of four times in cooperation with the Rescue Board.

According to Tanel Türna, head of the Environmental Board’s hunting and aquatic life department, the bears first entered settlements in Tartu County in late July. Despite being moved to large forest areas in Ida-Virumaa to find suitable habitats and food, they continued to return to populated areas.

Authorities believe the bears have lost their natural fear of humans due to being fed by people, which has disrupted their natural behavior. Officials have issued a plea to the public to stop feeding wildlife to prevent dangerous encounters as the bears grow larger and more capable of posing a threat.
