Ida Vitale celebrated through documentary screening and new poetry collection
Uruguayan poet Ida Vitale, a central figure of the Generation of '45 and recipient of the Miguel de Cervantes Prize, is being celebrated through new literary and cinematic releases.
In Hong Kong, the Consulate General of Uruguay and the University of Hong Kong are hosting an event on March 26, 2026, to honor her legacy. The program includes a lecture on the reception of her work in Asia and a screening of the 2023 documentary 'Ida Vitale', directed by María Arrillaga, which explores the poet's life and creative process.
Additionally, Tusquets Editores has released 'Poemas de juventud 1943-1946', a collection of 15 previously unpublished poems written by Vitale during her early career. The volume provides insight into her developing style and serves as a historical record of her early poetic voice.
