Idaho Falls Hosts National Night Out to Boost Community Policing

The Idaho Falls Police Department held its National Night Out celebration on Tuesday at Tautphaus Park. Children crawled through police cruisers, rode motorcycles, explored a BearCat vehicle, tried a taser simulator and watched a drone demonstration. Attendees also met the department’s bomb‑sniffing dog Skadi and saw the bomb‑squad’s robot, while officers from patrol, SWAT, dispatch and crime‑scene units answered questions.

Police Chief Bryce Johnson said the event reflects the department’s goal of “intimate relationships” and building trust to prevent crime. Deputy Chief Jeremy Galbreaith highlighted the variety of equipment on display, and Mayor Lisa Burtenshaw issued a proclamation naming the day “Idaho Falls Community Policing and National Night Out Day.” City Council President Jim Francis stressed that trust between police and residents is essential for proactive crime prevention.
