Idaho Power plans exit from Eastern Oregon

Idaho Power’s planned exit from Eastern Oregon represents a potential economic setback for the ‘Greater Idaho’ movement. The movement seeks to shift several eastern Oregon counties from Oregon’s jurisdiction to Idaho to align with more Republican-leaning political structures.

While the movement has seen support in various ballot issues, it recently faced a significant defeat in Wallowa County. The utility company’s departure marks a loss of one of the most substantial organizational links between the two states. Idaho Power currently serves approximately 20,000 customers across Baker, Harney, Malheur, and Wallowa counties, representing roughly 3% to 4% of its total reach.
