Idaho State Police report two fatal road accidents
Two fatal traffic accidents occurred in Eastern Idaho on Thursday morning, according to the Idaho State Police.
The first incident took place around 10:47 AM on US 93 in Custer County. A 51-year-old male from Ammon was driving a Peterbilt semi-truck hauling gravel when the vehicle left the roadway and entered a borrow pit. During an attempt to correct the vehicle, the tractor and trailer became detached; the trailer overturned, and the driver died at the scene. Authorities noted the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
Less than an hour later, at approximately 11:12 AM, a second fatal accident occurred in Bear Lake County. A 71-year-old male riding a Polaris ATV swerved to avoid a GMC Savana on North Road in Ovid. The ATV struck a concrete barrier and overturned. The rider was transported to a local hospital but later passed away. Investigators noted the rider was not wearing a helmet.
