Idaho women's soccer defeats Washington State in season opener
The Idaho Vandals women’s soccer team opened their 2026 season with a 3-0 victory over the Washington State Cougars in Pullman. Idaho secured the win with a rapid offensive burst, scoring three goals within the first 10 minutes of the match. Calli Chiarelli opened the scoring in the second minute, followed by a second goal at the five-minute mark and a third from Alyssa Hamilton in the tenth minute.
The match marked the inaugural game for Washington State’s new head coach, Chris Citowicki, who previously led Montana. The victory represents Idaho’s first win against Washington State since 1993, breaking a long losing streak in the series.
In a personal milestone, Idaho coach Jeremy Clevenger coached the winning match on the same day he and his wife, Sanne Clevenger, welcomed their son, Beau, into the world.
