Idahoans United for Women and Families sue over Proposition One ballot language

The group Idahoans United for Women and Families has petitioned the Idaho Supreme Court to challenge the ballot language for Proposition One, which will appear on the November general election ballot.

The lawsuit targets the “Yes/No” statements drafted by Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador and Secretary of State Phil McGrane. The plaintiffs claim the current 76-word statements are “biased, misleading, and violate two decades of state precedent.”

The group argues that the “No” statement inaccurately describes existing state laws by omitting that abortion is currently a felony in Idaho and failing to mention the lack of a health-of-the-mother exception. They are seeking to have the court strike down the current statements and replace them with language they describe as “lawful, clear, and concise.”
