IDC predicts over 20 million active PEC accounts by 2026

A new study by IDC, presented by Aruba in Rome, forecasts that Italy's Certified Electronic Mail (PEC) will reach over 20 million active accounts and approximately 3.5 billion messages by 2026. The research highlights PEC as a mature component of Italy's digital transformation, serving as a strategic infrastructure for legal certainty in communications between public administrations, businesses, professionals, and citizens.

Key benefits cited by users include legal validity, security, and the simplification of administrative processes. For instance, 64% of companies use PEC to participate in tenders and competitions. However, the report identifies a lack of international interoperability as a significant barrier for 55% of organizations. There is also growing demand for better integration with corporate systems and the implementation of artificial intelligence functionalities.
