Identity management firms expand security controls for AI agents
Identity management companies are expanding their capabilities to address the security challenges posed by the rise of AI agents. At the Ping YOUniverse conference, Ping Identity executives categorized AI agents into two primary groups: personal agents and enterprise agents.
Personal agents include employee agents that assist with productivity via web browsers or mobile apps, and partner agents that can act on behalf of human users by using their credentials. Enterprise agents, such as workload agents and SaaS-embedded agents, operate largely independently and require their own distinct identities to ensure security.
In a similar move toward AI governance, JumpCloud has expanded its Agentic IAM capabilities. This update allows IT teams to manage AI agent access to data and applications using the same infrastructure used for human users. The platform aims to close governance gaps by tying every agent to a human owner, tracking their lifecycle, and implementing privileged access rules to ensure least-privilege permissions for automated tasks.
