IDF Chief Eyal Zamir cancels planned US visit amid security alert

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has canceled a planned mid-October visit to the United States due to the heightened security situation in Israel. The trip was intended to facilitate high-level meetings with the commander of US Central Command and the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff to discuss military cooperation regarding Iran and other regional threats.

Zamir informed American officials that he did not believe it was appropriate to leave Israel while the military remains on high alert. The decision coincides with increased military readiness across various sectors and a sensitive period surrounding the Jewish holiday season.

Separately, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Israel has indications of potential attacks from enemies ahead of upcoming elections, though he did not specify the actors involved. Following these warnings, opposition leader Yair Lapid requested a security briefing and subsequently urged the public not to panic.
