IDF dismisses Gaza Division intelligence officer over October 7 failures

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has dismissed the intelligence officer of the Gaza Division, Lt. Col. A., following an investigation into command failures during the October 7 attacks. The decision to terminate his military service was made by the IDF Chief of Staff after determining that several senior officers bore responsibility for the intelligence lapses that occurred during the Hamas invasion.

The dismissal followed a lengthy administrative and legal process. Lt. Col. A. had challenged the proceedings in court, seeking to halt the review, but the court ultimately ruled that the IDF's process was lawful. The final decision incorporated findings from an advisory committee, the opinion of the Deputy Chief of Staff, and the officer's own explanations provided during the hearings.
