IDF imposes 14‑day confinement on 11 armored corps soldiers for unauthorized swimming

Eleven soldiers from the Israel Defense Forces' 77th Armored Battalion stationed at a base in the Golan Heights left the base without permission and went swimming in the Gilbon stream and a nearby waterfall. One soldier suffered a minor injury; during the subsequent investigation the troops attempted to conceal how they reached the site, and two admitted to drinking alcohol.

A military disciplinary hearing resulted in heavy penalties, with several of the soldiers sentenced to 14 days of confinement. Military officials emphasized the seriousness of the breach of discipline and the attempt to hide the facts, while families of the soldiers criticized the severity of the punishments.
