IDF investigates wartime incidents and West Bank shooting

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are conducting internal reviews of extraordinary incidents through the General Staff Fact-Finding Assessment Mechanism (FFAM). This mechanism aims to establish facts to assist the military prosecutor in deciding whether to initiate criminal proceedings. To date, the FFAM has investigated approximately 150 incidents since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip.

One significant case involves the April 2024 strike that killed seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) workers in Deir al-Balah. The IDF investigation found that soldiers identified an armed man in a humanitarian convoy and determined that the surrounding vehicles were moving in a manner consistent with Hamas tactics for seizing civilian vehicles. The investigation also noted that WCK workers had hired an armed security unit for protection.

In a separate incident in Jenin on the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and killed 58-year-old Fathi Zaidan Hazim. The IDF stated that Hazim, described as a terrorist, attempted to stab a soldier during an operation. Palestinian health officials confirmed his death, while a local witness provided a conflicting account, alleging that Hazim was shot multiple times after refusing orders to raise his hands.
