Gaza ceasefire marks one year amid ongoing Israeli military operations

One year after the October 10, 2025, ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States and Arab mediators, humanitarian organizations report that the truce exists ‘in name only.’ Despite the agreement, Israeli forces have reportedly violated the ceasefire for 369 consecutive days, with ongoing military operations causing significant casualties.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 1,493 Palestinians have been killed and 5,299 wounded since the truce began. Human rights groups note that Israeli forces have killed or wounded a Palestinian on average every 90 minutes. The Israeli military has conducted airstrikes in southern Gaza, claiming to target Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives involved in planning attacks.

Territorial control is also shifting. The expansion of the ‘Yellow Line’—a demarcation established under the U.S.-led peace plan—has seen Israeli forces seize more territory, including parts of the Shuja’iyya neighborhood. This has resulted in the displacement of hundreds of Palestinians and has placed nearly two-thirds of the Gaza Strip under Israeli military control or subject to access restrictions.

Humanitarian conditions remain dire. The Rafah crossing has seen limited use, with only 14,000 of 36,800 urgent travelers able to pass. Furthermore, the commitment to humanitarian aid and the opening of crossings for goods is estimated at only 38%, according to local reports.
