Neria Leiter, an IDF reservist and the son of Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, was critically injured in a car-ramming attack on Wednesday. The incident occurred at a security checkpoint near the Beit Horon settlement on Route 443 in the West Bank.

According to Israeli authorities, the attacker, identified by the Palestinian Health Ministry as 29-year-old Mahmoud Mohammad Mahmoud Suleiman, drove a vehicle into a police patrol. Security forces opened fire and killed Suleiman at the scene. Leiter was found unconscious and was evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where he underwent brain surgery. His condition remains extremely serious.

Ambassador Yechiel Leiter, who is returning to Israel from the United States, stated that his son “needs a miracle.” The family has previously suffered the loss of another son, Moshe Yedidya Leiter, who was killed while serving in Gaza in November 2023. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog have both expressed their support and prayers for Leiter’s recovery.
