Idowa community leaders deny Oba Dagburewe disrupted PDP rally

Community leaders in Idowa, Ogun State, have denied allegations that the Oba Dagburewe, Oba Sikiru Okuribido, was involved in the disruption of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally on September 16, 2026.

During a press conference at the Idowa Town Hall, High Chief Yusuf Olatunji Olusanya, representing the Dagburewe-in-Council and Oloritun-in-Council, stated that the monarch did not instruct anyone to stop the PDP campaign train or participate in the alleged destruction of property. Olusanya noted that the community had received no formal notification regarding the proposed visit.

The controversy stems from claims by the PDP that their campaign flag-off, involving governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu, was prevented from using a designated venue in Idowa despite the party having paid N170,000 for the space. Community leaders have called on the police and security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation using eyewitness accounts, videos, and official records to establish the facts and prevent the traditional institution from being drawn into partisan politics.
