Iğdır expands agricultural production through honey and high-yield feed
In Iğdır, Turkey, local agricultural sectors are seeing developments in both apiculture and livestock feed production. The harvest of apricot blossom honey has commenced in Güzeldere village. Iğdır Governor M. Fırat Taşolar highlighted the product's unique aroma and taste, stating it is one of Turkey’s rarest honeys. Efforts are underway to establish the honey as a brand and secure a geographical indication to promote it nationally.
Simultaneously, a project by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is promoting alternative feed crops to reduce livestock costs. Farmers in the region are successfully cultivating a sorghum-sudangrass hybrid, which can be harvested up to three times a year under favorable conditions. Local producers report high yields, with approximately 5 tons per decare in the first harvest, offering a more cost-effective and efficient alternative to corn.
