Iğdır FK launches new youth-focused project aiming for Super League promotion
Iğdır FK Football Director Hikmet Karaman announced that the club has entered a new formation centred on regional youth development and infrastructure investment. Following the Trendyol 1. Lig 2026‑2027 schedule release, Karaman said the initiative will bring together local youngsters, improve academies and, within two to three years, raise the club’s profile.
The project includes appointing experienced coach Kenan Koçak, who has Bundesliga and national‑team experience, and assembling a professional staff. Karaman highlighted that two of the club’s players – Leandro Bacuna (Curaçao) and Ryan Mendes (Cape Verde) – will serve as captains for their nations at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which he described as significant for Turkey and the city of Iğdır. The ultimate sporting goal, he said, is promotion to the Turkish Super League, backed by a clear plan and investment strategy.
