Idriss Lachgar criticizes Moroccan government coalition in Marrakech

Idriss Lachgar, First Secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), criticized the current Moroccan government coalition during a large political rally in Marrakech. Addressing party members and supporters, Lachgar launched a critique of the governing majority's performance over the past five years as the country prepares for the legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026.

Lachgar accused the government coalition of adopting policy proposals previously rejected by the USFP while in opposition, claiming they are now presenting these ideas as new electoral promises. He specifically questioned the government's recent pledge to raise the minimum wage to 5,000 dirhams, arguing that if such measures were not implemented during their term in power, they should not be presented as new achievements now.

Furthermore, Lachgar noted that the once-harmonious government coalition has devolved into mutual accusations among its members. He called for a “punitive vote” by citizens to hold the entire coalition accountable for their shared responsibility in managing the country's affairs over the last five years.
