IDTechEx reports rising demand for EV battery fire protection materials
IDTechEx has announced a new research report and a webinar focused on fire protection materials designed to defend against thermal runaway in electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The initiative comes as global safety regulations for EVs become increasingly stringent.
In July 2026, China mandated the application of the GB 38031-2025 standard for new vehicles, which imposes stricter requirements than previous versions regarding occupant escape warnings. Additionally, regulatory bodies such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE), the United States (FMVSS305a), and India (AIS-038 and AIS-156) are currently drafting or revising safety standards.
The market for EV battery fire protection materials—including ceramics, mica, aerogels, and polymers—is projected to exceed $10 billion by 2037.
