Idu industrial area to receive 50MW electrification project

A 50-megawatt electrification project has commenced in the Idu industrial zone of Abuja to provide uninterrupted electricity to local factories and commercial enterprises. The initiative is a collaborative effort between Welbeck Electricity Distribution Limited, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and Shell Gas Limited.

The project will be implemented in phases: the first phase aims to deliver 10MW by December 2026, with the remaining 40MW scheduled for rollout through 2027.

During the ground-breaking ceremony, Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe announced that the Federal Government is conducting technical audits across major industrial corridors, including the Lagos industrial axis, the Abuja-Kaduna corridor, and the Enugu-Onitsha axis. Tegbe noted that interventions in these zones aim to secure or create approximately 180,000 jobs over the next six months.
