IEA and UK Mitsubishi drive high‑temperature heat pump rollout

On 10 July 2026 the International Energy Agency updated its Project 68 database, listing more than 550 heat‑pump models from over 50 manufacturers that can reach fluid flow temperatures above 130 °C, with some units capable of 300 °C. The programme, led by Denmark and involving eleven countries, aims to accelerate development of high‑power heat pumps for industry and district heating.

Mitsubishi Electric’s new UK white paper calls for regulatory reforms to speed deployment of high‑temperature heat pumps in home retrofits. Its Ecodan R290 pump can deliver up to 75 °C, allowing existing radiators and pipework to be retained and reducing installation cost and disruption. The paper urges policymakers to revise rules and address the electricity‑gas price gap to meet Britain’s target of 450,000 heat‑pump installations per year by 2030. “Heat pumps are critical to achieving Britain’s Net Zero ambitions,” said James Chaplen, head of product marketing and communications at Mitsubishi Electric.
