IEA predicts 40% increase in peak electricity demand by 2035
According to the International Energy Agency’s World Energy Outlook 2025, peak electricity demand could rise by approximately 40% by 2035. This growth is expected to be driven by industrial needs, the electrification of transport, and increased requirements for climate control.
To address this demand, experts suggest a dual approach: transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy sources, such as solar photovoltaics, and improving energy efficiency to reduce the amount of power required for essential services like hospital care, factory operations, and building thermal comfort.
Climate change and geopolitical instability are noted as significant factors that could intensify cooling and heating needs while impacting energy markets and fuel prices. Implementing efficient solutions and localized renewable energy sources is highlighted as a way to reduce external dependency and build more resilient energy systems.
