IEBC releases timetable for Kenya's 2027 General Election
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released the official timetable for Kenya’s 2027 General Election, which is scheduled for August 10, 2027. The schedule outlines critical deadlines for political parties, candidates, and public officers.
Political parties must submit names of authorized persons and specimen signatures by October 15, 2026. Additionally, nomination rules must be certified by the Registrar of Political Parties by October 30, 2026, and submitted to the IEBC by November 6, 2026. Parties are also required to submit details regarding their primary elections, including candidate names, dates, and venues, by April 8, 2027.
Under the Elections Act, public officers intending to contest the election must resign from their positions at least six months before the election date, setting a deadline of February 9 or 10, 2027. However, certain elected officials are exempt from this requirement, including the President, Deputy President, Members of Parliament, Governors, Deputy Governors, and Members of County Assemblies.
