IEEG rejects Isidoro Bazaldúa Lugo's candidacy in Doctor Mora

The Electoral Institute of the State of Guanajuato (IEEG) has unanimously rejected the independent candidacy of Isidoro Bazaldúa Lugo for the municipal presidency of Doctor Mora. Bazaldúa Lugo, a former local deputy and state leader for the PRD, attempted to register as a woman to qualify for the position.

The rejection follows a mandate by the IEEG requiring that political parties and independent candidates in certain municipalities, including Doctor Mora, nominate only women for municipal presidencies. This measure was implemented because no woman has governed the municipality in at least 30 years.

Council members and political representatives characterized the attempt as a “cynical simulation” and “fraud.” Critics noted that Bazaldúa Lugo has spent his entire public career as a man, serving in various roles such as municipal controller and local deputy without identifying as a woman. The IEEG stated that the decision aims to prevent the exploitation of gender-based political quotas.
