Ierapetra: Man arrested after assaulting 71-year-old partner

A 71-year-old Bulgarian national was hospitalized in Ierapetra, Crete, following a violent assault by her partner on Tuesday evening. According to local reports, the man, who was in a state of intoxication, repeatedly struck the woman in the face and body with his fists.

Neighbors witnessed the attack and alerted the police and emergency services. Officers from the Ierapetra Police Station arrived at the scene, arrested the perpetrator, and took him into custody. The victim was transported to the Ierapetra Hospital for medical treatment.

The incident occurred near an abandoned two-story building on Ethnikis Antistaseos Street, where the couple and several others had reportedly been living without access to water or electricity. Local residents have filed numerous complaints regarding frequent disturbances of the peace and the poor sanitary conditions of the property.

Authorities plan to transfer the case to the Domestic Violence Department of the Lasithi Police Directorate in Agios Nikolaos. Additionally, municipal health and social services are scheduled to inspect the property to determine if it should be sealed due to being a health hazard.
