IES Andreu Alfaro teachers protest extreme classroom heat

Teachers at IES Andreu Alfaro in Paiporta have staged a protest to denounce extreme temperatures within the school. Despite a ruling from the Labor Inspectorate mandating that the Conselleria d’Educació install air conditioning by September 5, the school remains without climate control in most classrooms.

Currently, 33 out of 35 classrooms rely only on wall or ceiling fans, with indoor temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, surpassing the legal limit of 27 degrees. Only the computer labs and the music room are air-conditioned. Faculty members expressed frustration that musical instruments appear to be prioritized over the well-being of students and staff, noting that several students have already experienced dizziness and vomiting due to the heat.

To mitigate the heat, the administration has implemented a temporary schedule reduction, shortening class durations. However, staff have criticized the official protocol, which suggests contacting Protección Civil when climate refuges are exhausted; officials have reportedly responded that classes cannot be suspended without a formal climate alert.
