If Skadeförsäkring statistics show highest injury rates in preschool children
New statistics from If Skadeförsäkring, based on approximately 25,000 insurance claims between January 2024 and August 2026, reveal that children aged 3 to 6 account for the highest proportion of reported injuries. This group represents 38 percent of claims, followed closely by children aged 7 to 12 at 35 percent.
Dental injuries are the most common type of injury overall, appearing in about 40 percent of cases, followed by lacerations at 37 percent and fractures at just over 15 percent. Among the youngest children (ages 0–2), dental injuries are particularly prevalent, occurring in roughly 60 percent of claims. As children age, fractures become more common, particularly among teenagers aged 13 to 17, where fractures occur in nearly one out of every three cases, often affecting the hand, wrist, or arm.
Injury patterns show seasonal fluctuations: incidents peak in May and decrease during the summer months. Claims tend to rise again in the autumn, with October seeing an average of 25 percent more injuries than July. Jessica Ulin, head of personal injuries at If in Sweden, advises that even seemingly minor dental injuries should be examined by a dentist, as some damage may require treatment much later.
