IFC Chief Makhtar Diop to visit Ghana to boost private investment

Makhtar Diop, the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), is scheduled to visit Ghana from September 15 to 17, 2026. The visit aims to engage government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations to discuss mobilizing private investment for Ghana’s economic development.

Discussions will focus on strengthening businesses, improving competitiveness, and expanding access to finance to create sustainable jobs. The IFC plans to announce partnerships across several key sectors, including agribusiness, education, renewable energy, industrial development, and the creative economy.

The IFC has significantly increased its financial footprint in Ghana. In fiscal year 2026, the corporation committed $670 million through its own account and mobilization, a substantial rise from the $61 million committed in fiscal year 2021. Previous investments have supported food security, the cocoa value chain, manufacturing, and small and medium-sized enterprises.
