IFC outlines criteria for infrastructure project financing

At the Mozambique Transport and Logistics Investment Forum and Exhibition (TRANS-LOG MOZ 2026) in Maputo, Tiago Almeida, a Senior Investment Officer at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), identified three core conditions for financing infrastructure projects.

The first requirement is a sound economic and financial foundation that demonstrates investment viability. The second involves the technical and financial capacity of project sponsors, as financiers require entities capable of managing complex, long-term developments and ensuring operational continuity.

The third criterion is the bankability of contracts, particularly within concessions and public-private partnerships. Almeida emphasized that risk allocation is critical, noting that responsibilities should be assigned to the entities best positioned to manage them.
