Tunisia advances economic partnerships and energy initiatives

Tunisia is pursuing several economic and developmental initiatives aimed at strengthening its industrial and energy sectors. In the automotive industry, Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Abdelhafidh met with a South Korean delegation to explore investment opportunities in automotive components, leveraging Tunisia’s strategic location and skilled workforce.

Regarding sustainable development, Tunisia is working with UN-Habitat and Italy to implement a partnership platform for the territorialization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This framework aims to align national strategies with local priorities, including the 2026–2030 national development plan.

In the financial and energy sectors, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) is prioritizing private investment in Tunisia, with a projected $300 million project portfolio for 2026 focusing on renewables, manufacturing, and SMEs. Additionally, Tunisia has reaffirmed its commitment to Arab electrical integration during ministerial meetings in Riyadh. However, the country faces energy sovereignty challenges, as it remains heavily dependent on Algerian gas for electricity production, with energy independence estimated at approximately 27% to 34% as of mid-2026.
