iFi Audio unveils iCAN PHANTOM 1.5 flagship amplifier

iFi Audio has announced the iCAN PHANTOM 1.5, an updated flagship headphone amplifier designed to accommodate a wide range of audio equipment, from sensitive in-ear monitors to demanding planar magnetic and electrostatic headphones.

The device features two switchable Class A input stages: a discrete solid-state circuit for speed and clarity, and a vacuum tube stage utilizing matched General Electric 5670 tubes for a smoother presentation. A third “Tube+” mode is available to provide increased warmth and harmonic saturation by reducing loop gain and negative feedback.

Key technical refinements in this version include expanded gain settings of 0dB, 12dB, and 24dB to provide more headroom for difficult-to-drive headphones. Additionally, the enhanced IEMatch attenuation system offers up to 12dB of attenuation via single-ended connections and up to 24dB through balanced outputs to assist with sensitive earphones. The update also introduces a new VU meter, revised physical controls, and expanded functionality within the Nexis control app.
