Water‑related and wind‑related incidents account for about 95 % of all such damage, causing a total insured loss of roughly 811 million SEK over the past ten years.

The Stockholm region recorded the highest number of claims, with just over 5 000 reported cases, while Blekinge and Gotland each reported about 300, the lowest figures among Swedish regions. Only around four percent of owners believe their cottage could be affected by climate change, despite the widespread risk. Buyers are legally required to inspect cottages before purchase, and experts advise checking roof quality, back‑vent valves and tree‑fall risk to reduce future losses.
