iFood expands pharmacy delivery while facing worker protests
iFood has entered a partnership with Febrafar, the Brazilian Federation of Associative and Independent Pharmacy Networks, to expand delivery services to over 20,000 pharmacies. The initiative aims to provide a digital storefront for local pharmacies, allowing them to compete with larger national chains by reaching consumers already accustomed to using the delivery platform.
Simultaneously, delivery workers in Rio Branco, Acre, have issued a manifesto against iFood’s new '+Entregas' modality. Protesters describe the system as 'digital slavery,' citing low compensation rates of approximately R$3.00 to R$3.50 per delivery, which they claim barely covers fuel and maintenance costs. The manifesto also criticizes the grouping of multiple orders into single long routes and an algorithm that penalizes workers who do not adhere to the new format by leaving them without incoming requests.
