iFood reports daily violence against workers amid restaurant growth

Data regarding the Brazilian delivery platform iFood reveals contrasting impacts on the food service ecosystem. A report indicates that between January and July, the platform received 1,188 reports of violence against delivery workers, averaging approximately 5.6 occurrences per day. The most frequent complaints involve discrimination and threats, followed by physical aggression.

In response to these incidents, iFood has applied 1,600 sanctions against customers and stores. Specific cases of reported violence have occurred in cities such as Brasília, São Paulo, Fortaleza, Goiânia, and Valinhos, involving insults, racial discrimination, and physical assaults.

Conversely, a study by the Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas (Fipe) suggests positive economic trends for partner restaurants. The research, which analyzed over 40,000 establishments, found that restaurants using the platform saw an average employment increase of 7% and a 9% rise in real wages compared to non-users. The impact is most significant among micro-entrepreneurs (MEIs), who saw employment growth of up to 50% and a 40% to 60% reduction in the risk of business closure.
