Brazil implements mental health initiatives during Setembro Amarelo

During the Setembro Amarelo campaign, various Brazilian institutions and municipalities are implementing initiatives to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

In Pindamonhangaba, the municipal government is expanding its healthcare network by adding over 4,700 new appointments in psychology, psychiatry, and child neurology. Similarly, in Aquidauana, the local health department and the Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS) conducted community outreach activities involving lectures and wellness exercises.

Educational and social sectors are also participating. The Federal Institute of São Paulo (IFSP) hosted a program titled ‘Amplifica’ featuring psychologist Raquel Franco to discuss emotional recognition. Experts emphasize the importance of creating safe spaces for adolescents to discuss emotions, noting that data from the 2024 National School Health Survey indicates significant levels of sadness among Brazilian students aged 13 to 17. Discussions often highlight the need for adults to listen without minimizing the feelings of young people.
