IG BAU union demands 17 euro minimum wage for cleaners

The IG BAU Rhein-Main union is demanding a minimum wage increase for building cleaners in the Bergstraße district. The union is calling for an additional 2 euros per hour, which would bring the minimum wage for cleaners to at least 17 euros per hour. For glass and facade cleaning, the union is requesting a future hourly wage of 20.40 euros.

Andrea Klinzing, chair of IG BAU Rhein-Main, stated that the increase is necessary to combat rising inflation affecting rent, fuel, and food prices. She noted that cleaning professionals are disproportionately affected by these costs despite the physical demands of their work. Approximately 1,860 employees across 102 companies in the Bergstraße district are affected by this proposal. Negotiations regarding these tariff demands are scheduled to begin in September 2026.
