IG Metall stages Mercedes‑Benz protests and Humbaur strike across Germany
The IG Metall union has called on Mercedes‑Benz employees to protest the automaker's tightened cost‑cutting plan. Demonstrations are scheduled at the Sindelfingen and Untertürkheim plants and at additional sites in Rastatt, Kuppenheim, Bremen, Berlin, Hamburg, Germersheim and Düsseldorf, with thousands of workers expected to gather to demand an end to job cuts, plant closures and the postponement of the "Transformations" bonus.
At the same time, IG Metall organised a warning strike at trailer manufacturer Humbaur in Gersthofen. About 165 workers halted production, supported by delegations from other regional firms, to press the company for a new collective bargaining agreement after the previous contract expired and talks stalled. The union warned that further escalation is possible if negotiations do not resume.
