Iga Swiatek cruises past Emerson Jones in Roland Garros opening round

Poland's four‑time French Open champion Iga Swiatek began her 2026 Roland Garros campaign with a dominant 6‑1, 6‑2 victory over Australia's Emerson Jones, wrapping up the match in just 61 minutes. The win secured her place in the second round and continued her unbeaten streak in Grand Slam first‑round matches since 2020.

After the match Swiatek praised her performance and highlighted the need to continuously adapt her game to changing conditions. She noted the Paris heat and the slower balls, saying, “When we arrived it was 16 °C and the ball was very heavy; now you need more control and touch, you can’t just hit hard.” Swiatek also stressed that staying at the top requires constant evolution, adding, “The difficulty of staying at the summit is to keep adapting your game so you don’t become predictable.”

Her next opponent will be Czech teenager Sara Bejlek, who upset former US Open champion Sloane Stephens in the first round. Swiatek’s confident start sets the tone for another potential title run at the French Open.
