Iga Swiatek ends 2026 season early due to injury

World No. 9 Iga Swiatek has announced the early conclusion of her 2026 tennis season to focus on recovering from a left thigh injury. The Polish star confirmed her withdrawal from the Ningbo Open in China and will also miss the season-ending WTA Finals in Indian Wells.

Swiatek noted that the past few years have been incredibly intense, citing the cumulative physical and mental demands of the professional circuit as a primary reason for the break. She expressed pride in her team's progress during the second half of the year but emphasized the necessity of a full recovery to prepare for future seasons.

Her absence significantly impacts the WTA Finals field, which features eight players based on the PIF WTA Race Rankings. Swiatek's withdrawal follows a period of physical struggle, including a medical timeout during a recent match against Maja Chwalinska.
