Iga Świątek eliminated in third round of Wimbledon 2026

Defending champion Iga Świątek was defeated by the Philippines' Alexandra Eala 6‑7(9), 2‑6 in the third round of Wimbledon 2026, ending her title defence. The loss stripped her of roughly 1,870 WTA ranking points, dropping her from world No. 3 to No. 6.

For reaching the 1/16 final, Świątek earned £185,000 (about 925,000 zł). After the match she told reporters, “Szczerze mówiąc, nie obchodzą mnie już wyniki,” indicating a loss of motivation and mental fatigue.

Former coach Michał Kaznowski said the Polish star’s biggest issue was internal: “Miałem wrażenie, że Iga zmaga się nie tyle z rywalką, ile sama z sobą… to było nierówne. Stąd brały się jej frustracje i rzucanie rakietą.” Analysts also highlighted a sharp decline in her serving, noting 10 double faults in three matches and a rise in errors versus previous seasons.

Maria Sharapova praised Eala on social media with a single “Star!!”. Other commentators, including Catherine Whitaker and Martina Navratilova, expressed concern over Świątek’s form and confidence.

The match marked the first time a Filipino player advanced to the Wimbledon fourth round, adding historic significance beyond the individual upset.
