Iga Swiatek battles for WTA Finals spot at Wuhan Open

Iga Swiatek is competing in the Wuhan Open with a primary focus on securing a spot in the WTA Finals. Currently ranked 10th in the Race, she trails Karolina Muchova by over 800 points, making her performance in Wuhan and subsequent tournaments in Ningbo and Tokyo critical for qualification.

Swiatek has addressed her recent lack of consistency, noting that her season has been more challenging than previous years. She highlighted the positive impact of working with her new coach, Francisco Roig, who has helped her refine her game on the practice court. Despite the pressure to qualify for the season-ending championships, she stated that her motivation remains high regardless of the outcome.

In Wuhan, Swiatek is scheduled to face fellow Polish player Magdalena Frech in the second round. Frech advanced to the main draw as a lucky loser after defeating Mananchayaya Sawangkaew. Additionally, Swiatek has expressed appreciation for the warm reception and support from fans in China during her stay.
