IGAS reports 224 workplace harassment processes in health sector

The General Inspection of Health Activities (IGAS) has opened 224 processes regarding workplace harassment between January 1, 2017, and July 31, 2026. According to a recent report, the number of harassment cases has grown exponentially since 2021, with a notable peak in 2025 involving 53 processes.

Of the total cases, 93.3% involved moral harassment, 3.6% were sexual harassment, and 3.1% involved a combination of both. Among completed investigations, harassment was confirmed in only three cases, while 106 cases were not confirmed. IGAS noted that the low confirmation rate may indicate that many complaints do not meet legal requirements for harassment or reflect difficulties in providing evidence, potentially pointing to other types of labor conflicts.

Regarding the entities involved, 71% of the processes concerned hospitals within the National Health Service, 17.9% involved primary healthcare units, and 10.3% related to Ministry of Health bodies.
