Igbinedion University inducts 65 new medical doctors

Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) held its 21st Oath-Taking and Induction Ceremony, formally inducting 65 new medical doctors. During the ceremony, university leaders and medical professionals emphasized the importance of ethics, compassion, and lifelong learning in the medical field.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye described medicine as a “calling rather than merely a profession,” urging the graduates to prioritize patient welfare, maintain confidentiality, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals. He also highlighted the need for continuous research and the adoption of new technologies to improve Nigeria’s healthcare system.

Induction lecturer Prof. Titus Sunday Ibekwe advised the new doctors to approach their roles with humility, stating that the “white coat is not a crown” but a symbol of service. Additionally, Dr. Andrew Eigbedion of the Nigerian Medical Association (Edo State Branch) called on the Federal Government to increase housemanship slots to accommodate the growing number of qualified doctors.
