IgG4-related disease awareness campaign launches in Milan
A new awareness campaign titled ‘NON M’IngG4nno’ has launched in Milan to increase knowledge of IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD). The initiative, promoted by Amgen in collaboration with ANMAR and APMARR, aims to improve early diagnosis of this rare, chronic, and systemic condition.
Specialists refer to IgG4-RD as ‘the great imitator’ because its symptoms can appear disconnected and mimic other conditions, often leading to misdiagnosis. The disease affects approximately 5 in 100,000 people and is more common in men, typically appearing between the ages of 50 and 70. Persistent inflammation from the disease can lead to fibrosis and organ dysfunction.
The campaign was introduced with a body-painting performance at the Colonne di San Lorenzo in Milan. Silvia Tonolo, president of ANMAR, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and the need to support patients who may have previously received incorrect diagnoses, such as cancer.
