Ignatius Ajuru University expels student over viral research fraud claims
The Senate of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has expelled Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora, a final-year student in the Department of English and Literary Studies. The decision follows a viral social media video in which Nora allegedly claimed a lecturer was completing her final-year research project for ₦150,000.
University spokesperson Dr. Ngozi Okiridu stated that the Senate reviewed the video and found the student’s claims unacceptable. The institution noted that Nora struggled to explain her research details and identified her topic as ‘Citizenship,’ a subject the university maintains does not exist within her department.
The university issued the expulsion to serve as a deterrent against damaging content creation and to uphold academic integrity.
