Ignazio La Russa announces lawsuit against historian Michela Ponzani

Italian Senate President Ignazio La Russa has announced a lawsuit against historian Michela Ponzani. The legal action follows comments made by Ponzani during a television appearance on La7 on October 22, 2026.

In response to reports suggesting she might run in the center-left primary elections with Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra (Avs), Ponzani issued a categorical denial on November 1, 2026. She stated that she is not interested in participating in the primaries and noted that no one had approached her regarding such a candidacy.

Ponzani, a historian of the Resistance at Tor Vergata, emphasized that she limits herself to her professional work and invited those who disagree with her findings to do so using historical sources.
